Ever had a killer Bánh Mì? Did you love it? Great, you will love this too.
Or do you not have any idea what I’m talking about? Let me break it down.
Bánh Mì: [ɓǎɲ mî]) is a Vietnamese term for all kinds of bread.
So, a Bánh Mì is a Vietnamese street food sandwich consisting of the bread, which is traditionally a Vietnamese French baguette (made with both wheat and rice flour), some sweet ass đồ chua (pickled carrot and daikon), spicy mayo, cilantro and your preferred protein. That’s it. And it’s glorious. Today, however, I’m showing you how to make this crazy Bánh Mì hotdog. Ugh, yes.
Đồ chua
- 2 carrots, shredded
- 2 daikons, shredded
- 2 deciliter fresh water
- 1 deciliter rice vinegar
- 1/2 deciliter cane sugar
- 1 pinch of salt
Add everything to a bowl, cover and chill for at least 45 minutes before using.
Everything else
- 4 x your favourite vegan hotdog
- 4 x hotdog bread or Vietnamese baguette
- Vegan mayo mixed with sriracha to taste
- 8 sticks of deseeded cucumber
- Plenty of fresh cilantro
- Plenty of fresh lime
Warm your bread if you wish and start assembling your killer Bánh Mì dog; start off with the cucumber, place the dog on top and dress with plenty of sriracha mayo, cilantro & lime juice. Enjoy!
